Let's make a Butterfly Island: [The Preparation]

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Home Depot….although thoughts & opinions are my own.

We are working on a brand new project this spring, and it is one that I am super excited about. I love plants and flowers, and also love butterflies. What better project to work on than a butterfly Island? All of my favorite things combined into one!

I was thrilled to be working with The Home Depot on this project. Check out this video to learn what a Butterfly Garden/Island is all about.

Here is also an example of a Butterfly Island with products recommended, from The Home Depot.

To prepare for this project, we had to decide on exactly where I wanted to put the butterfly island. I am such an indecisive person, this took me awhile. 😉
After deciding on the front yard, I had to decide where in the font yard, and the shape that I wanted my butterfly island to be.

Once that was decided, I headed over to The Home Depot to pick up my project supplies. The Home Depot garden center always has a lot of people working in that department, so it was easy finding the things that I needed. They were very helpful in locating the items on my list as well as helping with my selection of plants.

After deciding on the garden wall block and cap, I then picked up the soil. I chose miracle gro garden soil as the soil for my butterfly island.

I then went with Earth Gro brown mulch by Scotts.

While there, we learned all about Home Depot kids workshop. It’s is a workshop for kids, that the Home Depot has once a month—the first Saturday of each month. My kids have never been to one of these, so we decided then & there that we would attend the next one….which was only a week away. My girls were very excited about this, and could not wait to go!

After picking up a few supplies, I headed home and decided to determine the “shape” that I wanted the butterfly island, seeing what works best for the space.
